Building Wire
UL83 Application
Thermoplastic insulated wires are for general purpose building wires.
- Provide power supply to buildings and structures
- Commonly used in commercial or industrial applications, such as branch
circuits and feeders - Installed in cable trays, conduits, enclosures, underground or
aboveground raceways - Suitable for dry or damp locations
- As a further processing step for the core wire, UL 83 wire can be made
into other cable types, such as TC, WTTC, and MC.

UL83 Conductor
- Copper
Annealed copper, must comply with ASTM B3
- Copper clad aluminum
Must comply with the requirements of UL44 Appendix D Not permitted in Canada and Mexico
Effective February 24, 2025
Aluminum alloy or copper clad aluminum conductors used for
thermoset insulated wire must be selected from DVVR2/DVVV2
certified conductors.

UL44 Application
Thermoset insulated wires are building wires used for supplying power to buildings and structures. They are commonly used in commercial or industrial applications, such as service-entrance cables, branch circuits, and feeders. They can be installed in cable trays, conduits, raceways, ducts, underground systems, or aerial installations. They are suitable for use in both dry and wet ocations. As a further processing step for the core wire, UL 44 wire can be made into other cable types, such as TC, WTTC, and MC.
